Msiska back at CAPS

Former CAPS United player and national team goalkeepers' coach Brenna Msiska seems to be retracing his footsteps to the club as they begin preparations for of the new season.

The Green Machine started their preparations on Monday with almost their full complement of players in attendance including new signings Daryl Nyandoro, Tawanda Nyamandwe and Conrad Whitby.

Msiska was part of the team as they went through their paces at the National Sports Stadium B Arena under the supervision of head coach Lloyd Chitembwe and his assistants Joel Lupahla and Kennedy Nagoli.

Chitembwe has publicly said he will not take charge of CAPS United during the forthcoming season and has yet to seal a deal with the club while he has also been linked with a move to FC Platinum as assistant coach. The coach claims he has lost the passion for football and needs to spend quality time with his wife.

A CAPS United official said Msiska was just helping out the team in the absence of goalkeepers' coach, Richard Tswatswa, who was away in Botswana with the national team last weekend.

"We have just started our preparations and he (Brenna) is just helping out since our goalkeepers' coach is not here.

"At the moment Tswatswa is tied up elsewhere and is only available twice or three times per week and Msiska is just helping out in the meantime," said the official.

The Green Machine have managed to retain most of their players, including Pride Tafirenyika, Marvel Samaneka, Evans Gwekwerere, Edmore Sibanda, Muzondiwa Gonese, Douglas Walaza and David Rediyoni.

Gritty midfielder Ashley Rambanapasi is still battling for full fitness following knee surgery towards the end of the last season.Rambanapasi took part in yesterday's training.

Defender Arnold Chiveya, who was given a new lease of life at the club, was also at the training session with two unidentified Zambian players also trying their luck at the club.

CAPS United's biggest rivals, Dynamos, finally got the ball rolling when coach Calisto Pasuwa led the players through their paces at the National Sports Stadium main arena yesterday.

The Glamour Boys were initially scheduled to begin their pre-season on Monday but their first training session of the year was cancelled after the players boycotted in protest over unpaid bonuses for winning the championship last season.

But a compromise was reached with the executive and most of the players in attendance. The Harare giants are expecting a full house by the end of the week with Zambians Arthur Kaseloki and Derrick Kabwe expected to join the squad in the next few days.

Team manager Richard Chihoro said they had a brief session to loosen the muscles and will shift the gears in the coming weeks.

"We had a light workout for an hour because the players are coming from the off-season and we don't want to strain them on the first day. "We expect to have all the players in by the end of the week," said Chihoro.

Their new signings - explosive striker Takesure Chinyama, Ocean Mushure and Tinei Chitora - were part of the squad at the Nationals Sports Stadium together yesterday and trained alongside regular players Murape Murape, David Kutyauripo, Guthrie Zhokinyi, Thomas Magorimbo, Devon Chafa and Gift Bello.
