Music lovers in for a treat

A MIXED bag is on offer when grandmaster Oliver Mtukudzi, dendera exponent Sulumane Chimbetu, gospel sensation Fungisai Zvakavapano-Mashavave and Munya Mataruse clash in a gig dubbed "The First Gig of the Year" to be held at the City Sports Centre on January 27.

Revellers who want to make merry and shake off the heavy toll of "January disease" will not have no better way of doing so than attending the star-studded gig.

What makes it thrilling is that it has a "mixed dish" of genres starting with katekwe popularised by the superstar Oliver Mtukudzi.

Mtukudzi has over the years been sharing the stage with various artistes from both the secular and gospel realms and he starts 2012 in similar vein when he ushers artistes with different styles into the year.

The Unicef Goodwill Ambassador will be out to prove why he is one of Zimbabwe and Africa's music legends when plays at the gig.

Sulu, on the other hand, is expected to give dendera music lovers value for their money and also use the same platform to give his new band members an acid test at a much bigger show than last week's which attracted mixed reactions.

Gospel music will be represented by diva Fungisai Zvakavapano-Mashavave, who has vowed to play at any venue with any artiste this year.

Famed for her hits like "Toita Zvedenga" and "Makomborero" among others, the singer is one of the country's leading female gospel musicians.

Young Mataruse, on the other hand, has had a successful career after being groomed by Tuku and the artiste has gained confidence playing at gigs of such magnitude.

The show is being organised by Jazz 105 under the directorship of prominent music promoter Josphat Hozheri.
