Diana Samkange for Valentine’s gig

THE "First Lady" of love ballads, Diana Samkange, will be back to her old ways when she entertains couples during an event dubbed "Luncheon and Dinner Valentine's Special" to be held at Ochi City on Saturday. Diana - who started the new year on a high and active note, one of the three female musicians including Fungisai Zvakavapano-Mashavave and Sandra Ndebele who were involved in the Chipaz Charity Match - will serenade lovebirds starting in the afternoon until late.

And to prove why she is the ideal choice for such an occasion for lovers, who will be celebrating Valentine, the singer will use her velvet voice to dish out her love gems like "Kumagumo Erudo" among others.

Despite her diminutive stature, her vocal ability and ingenuity makes her a cut above the rest. The weekend event will give the reveller an opportunity to listen to her growing discography, while at the same time interacting with her an of and off the stage during this special event.

What makes the event a special one is that Diana will have in tow her full band, a move she made ever since shifting from urban grooves to jazz, which is music for the mature.

Diana, who cut her teeth with the group 2BG, will also use this platform to do jazz renditions of some of the tracks that made the outfit famous before she opted to go solo.

Those who had an opportunity to attend the Jazz Festival held at Jazz 105 in Harare last year can attest that her stage presence combined with her majestic moves transforms any boring occasion to an awesome event.

The diva is blessed with a soulful voice, and that alone has pushed her career to dizzy heights. She is going to use her performance at Ochi tomorrow to market her yet to be named album, due for release this year.

Ideally, Ochi City is a befitting venue for such a gig for lovers because of its location.

Ochi City and Safari's is located right in the bush away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Apart from the wildlife, which enhances its ambiance, Ochi boasts some upmarket entertainment utilities that include a well-stocked bar and a thatched restaurant high up on the mountain, giving diners a scenic view of the surrounding Domboshava area.

Since it was opened a few years ago, it has played host to some of the biggest names in the arts industry, locally and regionally. Some of the artistes include South African Patricia Majalisa, local sungura icon Alick Macheso, Suluman Chimbetu, Leonard Zhakata, Baba naMai Charamba and several urban groovers.
