Artisan Studios has finally released Munyaradzi Munodawafa’s album, “Zvava neZodzo”, after a series of hiccups. The album was scheduled for release in September last year but has taken ages to hit the record shelves owing to technical problems at the recording company, giving rise to frustration on the part of the artiste.
“It is very disappointing to note that my album is still to hit the market because I have already sold some of the copies in Masvingo. I am surprised to learn that Artisan Studios is still to release it,” Munodawafa was recently quoted as saying in The Herald.
However, Artisan Studios director Allen Dzobo revealed they had solved all their problems, resulting in the release of the eight-track album last week.
“It wasn’t something very serious but we are glad to announce that Munodawafa’s album is now out,” Dzobo said.
The album — which is Munodawafa’s fourth release after “Mwari Anoona” (1998), “Farai Munashe” (2006) and “Zvinouraya” (2010) — carries a South African beat and is probably the best from the young gospel prodigy.
It shows Munodawafa’s gift of composing meaningful lyrics and is also a clear testimony of how, like wine, he has matured with time.
The album opens with the track “Nzira” that reminds people that Jesus Christ is the way, the truth and the light and no one can get into the Kingdom of God without embracing him first.
The title track “Zodzo” talks about the anointing that God gives to his people, and it is closer in meaning to “Nhaka”, which extols people to be righteous so that they will inherit God’s Kingdom.
Everything that people pray for in life will become possible to those who believe in God, and that message is properly expressed in the song “Kuna Mwari Zvinoita”.
“Munana” is also closer in meaning to the former and it says that God can work out miracles in one’s life.
“Suwo”, “Passover” and “Matambiro” make up the rest of the playlist.
Born in 1988, Munodawafa, who is partially blind, first hogged the music limelight at a very tender age, after exhibiting tremendous keyboard playing skills.
He was famous for his hit song “Shandisa Chipo Chako” which was an impassioned plea to many physically challenged people to utilise their God-given talents.
He went on to release his debut at the age of 10.
