Local tennis players scheduled to take part in the African Junior Championships next month in Egypt, Cairo, will have a chance to assess their preparedness when they take part in the Super Eight tournament in Harare.
The tournament will be hosted by Harare province from March 23 to 25 and will feature the top eight players in the Under-12, 14, 16 and 18.
The championships in Egypt will cater for the Under-14 and 16 from April 3 to 14 and Zimbabwe is expecting to send six players – Courtney Lock and Alwyn Mushonga (Under-16 boys), Tadiwa Chinamo and Keith Mwashita (Under14-boys), Keren Muswere and Karen Machisa (Under-14 girls).
The championships for the 18 and under will be held in South Africa from March 19 to 24 and the team has already left for the event. Tennis Zimbabwe administrator, Cliff Nhokwara, said the Super Eight will be a warm-up event for the players to participate in the AJC to be held in Egypt.
Nhokwara said all the players that are going to Egypt are expected to take part in the tournament while for the under-18 age group they will select the best players as most of those in the top eight are currently in South Africa.
