Mashayamombe’s fight

She is known for her sensual and melodious voice in the gospel industry and has done a lot of musical collaborations.

This is Nyaradzo “Nyari” Mashayamombe, whose gospel music has touched the hearts of many.

Mashayamombe has now gone further to practise what she preaches by establishing a non-profit organisation called Tag a Life International (TaLI).

Formally registered in 2010, TaLI is biased towards the empowerment of the girl-child in all communities in Zimbabwe through the involvement of boys and men.

Even though empowerment of the girl-child seems to be a tired topic, Mashayamombe feels that not much has been done in the country to invest in the girl-child, hence the need for continued advocacy.

Mashayamombe, who is so passionate about fighting for the rights and empowerment of the girl-child, said her organisation seeks to address the social inequalities that repress the girl-child.

“TaLI is targeting boys, men and the communities at large to address the inequalities perpetrated against the girl-child. We are hoping for a changed generation that views girls and women differently,” she said.

“I was born and bred in the rural areas and I am not ashamed to tell my life story. After writing my Grade Seven examinations, I had a a brief stay in town and because of my childhood experiences, I have always wanted to one day address the needs of the girl-child,” she said.
