Patron of the Zimbabwe Union of Musicians, Cde Webster Shamu, has sent a message of condolences to the brown family following the death of renowned musician, Andy Brown.
In his message, Cde Shamu, said Andy was one of the most accomplished musicians and a patriot who used his music to celebrate our nationhood, while rallying people around the land reform programme.
He said the musician was never apologetic for his principled stance on the issue of land and social justice, born out of his experience under the colonial Rhodesian regime.
Cde Shamu said ‘Muzukuru’, as Andy was affectionately known by his fans, held his head high despite persecution by the local media for supporting national programmes.
He saluted Muzukuru as a true hero of the current revolution, who also cherished his Zimbabwean traditional roots, values and culture. Cde Shamu said Andy’s family should take solace in that the nation is with them in their time of mourning. Andy Brown died of severe pneumonia at Parirenyatwa Hospital on Friday. Burial arrangements will be announced in due course.
