A STELLAR line-up of some of the country’s hottest artistes of the moment — Blessing Shumba, Peter Moyo, Diana Samkange and Apama Dance Group — are billed to bring the roof down at the Rainbow 7 Arts Theatre in Harare this Friday during The Sunday Mail Bridal Show.
The annual bridal show, which has become one of the top events on the country’s entertainment calendar by bringing engaged couples, families, corporates and artistes together, this year promises to be more exciting, considering the melting pot of artistes who are going to perform.
On the gospel front will be none other than Nama-award winning gospel musician Blessing Shumba, who has taken the country by storm with his mellow gospel vibes and inimitable lyrics.
With just two albums to his name — “Ishe Wazvose” and “NdiMwari” — Shumba has stolen the hearts of many music lovers and no wonder one of his songs was also voted second in the Radio Zimbabwe Coca-Cola Pimped Up Ride Top 50 songs of the Year. Shumba said he would be out to make his maiden appearance at the bridal show a memorable one by using his act to thank God for holy matrimony.
“We are going to use this platform to preach through music about the importance of holy matrimony and how the marriage institution should be kept pure.
“We will be celebrating with the couples since marriage and weddings are some of the issues we encourage in our songs,” said the Mutare-based singer.
Sungura music lovers are also in for a treat as high-riding Peter Moyo will also be another first-timer at the event.
Those who have been attending his shows know that “Young Igwee” — despite his diminutive stature — is a music hulk in the making as evidenced by his polished delivery on stage.
He has a knack of evoking his late father’s spirit through his songs and his delivery is always a marvel.
Diva Diana Samkange is not new and has been rocking the music charts with her hits like “Kumagumo Erudo” among others.
And she will — without doubt — send sentimental tears cascading down in the cheeks of many lovebirds with her love gems. Then dance outfit Apama Styles is set to rock audiences and leave them laughing with their humourous dance moves.
One of the show’s highlights will be the rewards that the brides will walk away with, with cash prizes being US$1 000 for the Bride of the Year and US$750 and US$500 for the first and second runners-up respectively.
Apart from honeymoon and hampers for the winners, there will be US$750 for the Cake of the Year.
Sponsors include Brides and Dames, Gloria Flour, Exquisite Fragrances, Richmond Furniture, Delia Cakes, Best of Bride, Talita Events and Goldtech Electronics.
