Pasuwa under the spotlight

Harare giants Dynamos returned to training yesterday, for the first time since their sensational 0-6 Champions League destruction at the hands of Esperance in Tunisia, as they now turn their attention to domestic matters.

The Glamour Boys will resume their battle to defend their domestic crown when they visit Mutare tomorrow for a tricky date against Buffaloes at Sakubva.

The release of a video online, which shows all the half-a-dozen goals DeMbare conceded in Tunis, showed incredible defensive shortcomings, which were to blame for the calamity.

All the six goals were avoidable, with the Glamour Boys paying a huge price for the lack of a leader in central defence, vulnerability on both wings and the absence of an effective defensive shield in midfield.

Except for the third goal, scored when Esperance carried on with play while leftback Ocean Mushure lay flat on the ground after being elbowed, there doesn’t seem to be any refereeing conspiracy in the goals conceded.

Goalkeeper Washington Arubi should also shoulder blame for the second goal after punching a tame effort back into play but he was exposed badly in the other goals.

Crucially, there was nothing special that Esperance did in scoring all their goals as they all seemed to be presented on a silver platter by a central defence that kept retreating and wingbacks who were non-existent.

This gives Dynamos that little window of hope that if they can play to their full potential, and with the crowd roaring them on, they can make it very interesting in the return leg.

Coach Callisto Pasuwa told The Herald in Tunis that while they had lost a battle, the war was not yet over.

“It will be difficult in the return leg but not impossible. We just have to attack since we have nothing to lose,” said Pasuwa.

“If Milton Makopa is back and Leo Kurauzvione is available we may even go with a 4-2-4 formation. As long as we can score three first half goals like Esperance did, we can wipe out their lead.

“Football is psychological and it is a matter of demoralising them. Definitely we have not given up yet, they have numerous gaps we can exploit in the second leg”

His comments have sparked a wave of comments on Facebook.

Here are some of them:

Charles Mapfumo — Iwe Pasuwa, ukwane wazvinzwa.

Tafadzwa Musekiwa — The only good thing about soccer is that it’s unpredictable, unless the match is fixed, so nothing is impossible. Go DeMbare Go!

Rukudzo Nyakubaya — It’s good Pasuwa to be thinking positively but let’s face the truth — we’re out of the Champions League and let’s focus on our Premier League, DeMbare for life!

Titus Nyongo — Amana, ndiyaniko afumira kupa Pasuwa kirango mangwanani akadai?

Musharu Simon Brian — Dream on!

Tafadzwa Murwira — Believe please, ko ivo vakazvigona sei?

Artwell Jera — If Esperance managed to score six, we also can do it, that’s the message. Read between the lines madofo.

Gift Jamwanda — Uri kurota Pasuwa, unopenga, nyarara zvako. Zviroto ngazviperere mudzimba.

Cornwell Mpofu — If we failed to beat Hardbody, a team from Division One with a 9-0 scoreline, we cannot beat the best team in Africa with seven goals to nil. It’s Impossible.

Adrian A Sero — Pasuwa zvimwe zvinongoda kunyarara.

Cde Proud Munyimi — Zvinogona kuita, 4-2-4, I like that, but six is a wide margin. It’s worth the try, you have nothing to lose and you might be a history maker.

Nyamakupe Andrew Mazvita — Wishful thinking Pasuwa, even if Esperance field a blind goalkeeper DeMbare haihwine six goals to nothing.

Tanyanyiwa V Zimani — First deal with the friction between the young and old players, from mid to front, so as to instill discipline and the team can work as a team again.

At 3 -0 we should have parked the bus to manage the deficit. But that can only be done by a disciplined united team.

Marcia Lovejoy Chiyangwa — Ini hangu handidi kusvibisa muromo wangu, sa Albert Nyathi, “I shall not speak.”

Gilbert Jeke — Ma gap api ausina ku exploita kuTunisia? Usatinyepere, you’ve brought us the worst Champs League record and be careful the chop may be coming your way. It’s not about losing but the margin is too much to swallow. You know how it is like at DeMbare.

Sylvester Magomera — Aya ndiwo majokosi manje.

Takudzwa John Mavhunga — There is no chance for DeMbare. Remember that Esperance wants to defend its title so it’s gonna crush DeMbare @ home.
